Mr. Punch's Puzzles: The Riddle of the Week

Once, again, Mr. Punch, with my help, is offering up a true Victorian riddle.  The first person to answer correctly--by posting in the comments--will receive public congratulations.

So, here's this week's riddle.  We ask that you don't Google the answer.  Mr. Punch would not find that sporting at all.  Give it a shot and see what you can come up with.  Here we go... No cheating...

We dwell in cottages of straw,
And labour much for little gains;
Sweet food from us our masters draw,
And then with death reward our pains.

And the answer is...

BEES!

Or lomein.  Or strawberries.  I don't care.  The best part is your answers which are superior.  Well done, everyone!  Come back next Friday for another of Mr. Punch's Puzzles.

Mr. Punch wants you to always know “the way to do it,” so why not check out our “That’s the way to do it!” products which are available only at our online store.

The Brady Bunch.

That was not a house of straw. There was nothing natural about it.

You know what my first tight was but I'll say birds.

Close. Munchkins, tool

Is it ants?

Joseph Crisalli said...

No, it's aunts.

If not the Bradys then maybe the Partridge Family.

Joseph Crisalli said...

Only Danny.

Darcy said...

A one way monkey.

Dashwood said...

It's those maniac kids that were licking cakes the other day.

Joseph Crisalli said...

Could be, Darcy. One way monkeys do tend to labor for little reward.

Joseph Crisalli said...

Dashwood has a good point, too. Cake lickers often find death as their reward.

Angelo said...

Maybe it's hippies.

Joseph Crisalli said...

Dirty, filthy hippies.

I agree that it's one of the little pigs.

Joseph Crisalli said...

Well, I disagree.

Could it be cows.

Joseph Crisalli said...

No, I don't think it could.
