Made in the early Nineteenth Century in Etruria, Staffordshire, England, by Josiah Wedgwood & Sons, this pear-shaped, sugar caster of cream-colored earthenware is transfer-printed with the word "Sugar" in black.  A bee, painted in enamel colors, adorns the front.

Such items were designed for daily use, and were intended to bring a touch of color and beauty to the table.

It is marked:  "Wedgwood" and "D."
